register to vote in SC

Go to SCVotes.gov and follow the instructions under “Register Online.”

You will be asked for your SC Driver’s License and Social Security Number.

2. Check your voter registration

By filling out this form on SCVotes.gov you will be able to verify your registration and see your polling place.

If you need to update your Voter Registration, you can do so online here on SCVotes.gov. If you moved within South Carolina you probably need to do this.

3. Make your plan to vote

You have 3 opportunities to choose from to make your vote, Election Day (Nov. 3) at your Polling Place, Absentee Voting - Mail In, and Voting In-Person before Nov. 3 - In Person. You will want to pick the option that best aligns with your schedule and guarantees your ballot is included in the count.

When making your plan remember:

  • You will be askeed for your SC Driver’s License.

  • Depending on which voting opportunity you choose, you will need to double check the location and the hours of your Voting Center.

  • Research your ballot before you cast you vote. Scroll down for tips on how to do this.

  • Voting is better with friends – make a plan to go to the polls with a friend and hang out afterward!

Find Your Polling Place
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd. Polls will be open from 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM. Your polling place is assigned based off of where you live – which voter precinct is on your Voter Registration card. Scroll up to “Check Your Voter Registration” to find your polling place.

Absentee Voting - Mail In
You can vote absentee provided you apply by October 23rd. This involves a simple application that you have to mail in. Once it’s approved you’ll receive your ballot by mail. You can find the instructions on SCVotes.gov here.

Vote in-person before Nov. 3 - Early Voting
You have the option to show your support Monday, October 19 - Saturday, October 31. Polls will be open 8:30 AM - 6:00 PM Monday - Saturday.
Not all polling places are open for Early Voting. During Early Voting you can vote at any polling place in your county that’s open for Early Voting. You can see the details on SCVotes.gov here. For most of my neighbors in District 2, the most convienent Early Voting polling place is HGTC Business Center: 950 Crabtree Ln. Myrtle Beach, SC 29577.

4. decide who you’re going to vote for

You can find your sample ballot at SCVotes.gov here (after the Special Primary for SC Senate). Once you know all of your options, here are some questions to think about.

  • What change would I like to see in my community?

  • What change is the most important?

  • What is the voting record of the incumbents? Incumbents are the people who have been serving in the seat being voted for and are running for it again.

  • What does a good candidate look like for each seat?

You can print your sample ballot, fill it out, and bring it with you to the Voting Center. You can then copy your answers from your sample ballot onto your official ballot.

A Special Note: Sometimes our ballots have a question that asks us our opinion on the law changing for a specific issue. These questions can be worded in a confusing way. It’s important to actually research them before making a decision.

5. go to the polls and vote!

With your Driver’s License and your list of people to vote for, it’s time to head to the polls! If you’re voting on Election Day, please say “Hi” to my campaign team who will be cheering you on outside of the Voting Center perimeter.

If something looks different on your ballot than you expected, say something to a Poll Worker before submitting your ballot.

After you vote:

  • Put your “I Voted” sticker on.

  • Take a picture. Post it on social media and tag my campaign page @Vote4Kristi on Instagram and @Kristi Burch for Horry County Council District 2 on Facebook.

6. What do I do after election day?

Election results will start rolling in after 7:00 PM on Election Day but often take a few days to confirm.

Be sure to check the news to see if a run-off race is taking place.

Keep your eyes open for the next election. When you see it, put the date in your calendar.
