Hi, I’m Kristi burch.
Kristi Burch was born and raised in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She grew up in Briarcliffe Acres, a small town on the north end of Horry County District 2. Today she lives in the heart of Myrtle Beach, five blocks from where her grandmother’s home once stood — a home that was demolished to make way for a parking lot. Kristi’s roots in this community run deep. Her grandfather had his office in the Flatiron Building, now demolished. He worked for Collins’ Department Store, in a mall that has since been torn down. Her grandmother taught in schools that no longer stand. Of
her grandparents’ entire daily world in Myrtle Beach, only their church remains. It is that lived experience — of a community always moving forward, and the challenge of honoring what we were while shaping who we are becoming — that drives her campaign.
Kristi graduated from Myrtle Beach High School in 1992 and earned a BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Economics and a minor in Practical Politics from Meredith College in Raleigh in 1996. As a teenager and young adult she worked in the community she loves — scooping ice cream, working retail, and hostessing. She returned to school later in life and earned her MBA from Coastal Carolina University in 2021, concentrating on commercial real estate and development — because she knew CRE would be central to the future of her community moving forward.
Professionally, Kristi’s career has centered on small business and amusement management. She and her husband Colin also opened and operated a coffee shop and bookstore in Myrtle Beach.
Kristi has served her community in a wide range of capacities. She served as Outreach Director for the Pee Dee and Grand Strand regions of South Carolina Women in Leadership, where she encouraged women to run for public office and serve on local boards. She is a member of her local branch of the NAACP and serves on its Political Affairs Committee. She serves on the Vestry of her church and helped lead the congregation through a revisioning process and land acquisition. She is currently completing the My Beach 101 Citizens Academy, the City of Myrtle Beach’s civic education program.
Kristi homeschooled her three daughters for 16 years and describes that chapter of her life as her most important work — building young women anchored in who they were created to be. She and her husband Colin have been married for 31 years. She is running for Horry County Council District 2 because she believes the people who live, work, and raise families here deserve a voice that shows up — and that the time to move this community forward is now.
